Breast Reconstruction
For women diagnosed with breast cancer, the decisions regarding treatment options can sometimes be overwhelming. Surgery to remove the cancer is often followed by one or more procedures to restore the shape and appearance of a breast, or even to build a new one. At Richmond Plastic Surgeons, all of our surgeons specialize in breast reconstruction techniques. You may be a candidate for immediate breast reconstruction (occurring at the same time as the mastectomy) or in a delayed fashion (some time after the cancer operation and possibly after chemotherapy or radiation therapy as well).
Each breast cancer patient has her own special set of circumstances, and we offer a broad array of options, depending on your particular needs, body, and goals. We perform tissue expander and breast implant-based procedures as well as several different options for use of your own tissue, including the lower abdominal tissue (TRAM flap).
For many women, initial treatment of their breast cancer is just the first step. Our goal is to help restore your form and sense of femininity by providing the best options for your reconstruction, and we work closely with many of the best breast cancer surgeons and other members of the multidisciplinary breast cancer teams in the Richmond area.
If a balancing procedure is what you need for the other breast which is not affected by cancer, then we can also address that other side with breast lifting, reduction, or augmentation procedures to maximize your aesthetic result and help you to feel good about your body.
