Chin/Neck Liposuction in Richmond, VA
If you have fat under your chin and on your neck, you may be a good candidate for neck liposuction. The surgery is recommended for men and women who do not need a neck lift. Richmond Plastic Surgeons offers neck liposuction for men and women in Richmond, Midlothian and surrounding areas of Virginia.
What is Chin/Neck Liposuction?
Having fat on your upper neck and jawline hides the natural contours that help you look younger. Neck liposuction is a procedure that our plastic surgeons use to remove the fat. Compared to a neck lift, neck liposuction offers the precise control that is needed to remove the deposits of fat, and the downtime is shorter.
Benefits of Chin/Neck Liposuction
Eliminating fat along your jawline and under the chin is practically impossible with diet and exercise. Traditional plastic surgery techniques required that men and women who had fat in this area had to undergo a neck lift, which in some cases, was more extensive than necessary. Advances in liposuction techniques and technologies now allows our plastic surgeons to use their precision and expertise to remove fat from the neck area without the extensive surgery of a neck lift.
Who is the Ideal Candidate for Chin/Neck Liposuction?
The ideal candidate for neck liposuction is someone who is near an ideal weight but has isolated fat under the chin and along the jawline. You should have good skin elasticity because the procedure does not address sagging or loose skin.
What Do I Need to Do Before Having Chin/Neck Liposuction?
If you are considering neck liposuction, schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons. You will learn about the procedure and the anticipated outcomes. We will also provide instructions that need to be followed in the weeks prior to your neck liposuction.
What Should I Expect on The Day of My Chin/Neck Liposuction?
If a small amount of fat is being removed with your neck liposuction, the procedure will only require local anesthesia. Your surgeon may opt for a more advanced type of anesthesia if you have a larger amount of fat or if neck liposuction is being performed in conjunction with another procedure.
Small incisions are made under the chin or in another part of the upper neck. A small tube is inserted through the incision. The tube, known as a “cannula,” is used to dislodge the fat and suction it out of your neck area. The incisions for neck liposuction are typically small enough that sutures are not required to close the incisions.
How Long Does It Take to Perform Chin/Neck Liposuction?
Neck liposuction takes 30 to 60 minutes when performed as a standalone procedure.
What to Expect After Chin/Neck Liposuction
An elastic bandage is placed on your neck to help with swelling and promote proper healing. You will wear this bandage for up to three weeks. You will feel tired for the first few days, and you may experience a burning sensation and other discomfort. We will prescribe pain medication if needed. Bleeding and temporary numbness may also occur.
You can return to work after three days, but you will still have little energy for up to three weeks. Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for one month. Most of the swelling and bruising will subside after three weeks, but you will still have some swelling for six months.
Will I Have Scars After Getting Chin/Neck Liposuction?
Neck liposuction requires only small incisions that are less than one inch in length. If you do develop scars, they will not be noticeable except on very close inspection.
When Will I See the Results?
You will see some improvement in your neck area immediately after the surgery. Most of the swelling will be gone at four to six weeks, and full results can be seen at three to six months.
What Are Possible Complications of Chin/Neck Liposuction?
Our board-certified plastic surgeons are uniquely qualified to perform neck liposuction and achieve the best possible results while minimizing risk for our patients. Complications do occur in rare cases, such as:
- Fluid accumulation along the jaw and on the neck

How Long Will the Results of Chin/Neck Liposuction Last?
By eating right and exercising, you will enjoy the results of your neck liposuction for many years.
How Much Does Chin/Neck Liposuction Cost in Richmond?
Insurance does not cover neck liposuction because it is an elective surgery. After your consultation, we provide a cost for the procedure. Richmond Plastic Surgeons accepts several forms of payment, and financing is available through CareCredit®.
