In January, Drs. Wornom and Aboutanos participated in a surgical mission trip sponsored by the World Pediatric Project to the small town of Toyos, Honduras to perform cleft lip and palate surgery. Their team consisted of 13 other personnel, including a pediatric anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetists, surgical support staff, a speech therapist and volunteers. Over 90 pediatric patients were seen in the clinic, and a total of 45 pediatric surgeries were performed during the week. In addition to cleft lip and palate surgeries, patients with hemangiomas, ear deformities, hand and foot deformities, and burns were treated.

Dr. Wornom has traveled to Honduras annually for the past seven years to give pediatric surgical care to the children in the area there. This was Dr. Aboutanos' first trip to Honduras. They both are excited about helping children in Honduras and plan to continue their participation for years to come.
