Have you been experiencing moderate hair loss, thinning, or the early stages of pattern baldness? It might be time to consider the restorative effects of PRP. By catching and treating hair loss early on, you can enjoy restoration results that bring your hair back to its original, rich fullness. Richmond Plastic Surgeons offers PRP for men and women living in Richmond, Midlothian and surrounding areas of Virginia looking to restore volume and lost hair.

What Exactly Is PRP?

PRP (or “platelet-rich plasma”) is a hair treatment that draws blood from the patient, extracting the plasma and then injecting it directly into the scalp where hair loss is present.

Your platelet-rich plasma contains nourishing growth factors, which encourage hair growth and work to restore volume.

We can also use PRP injections on other areas of the body, to treat wrinkles and acne scars.

What Are the Benefits of PRP?

PRP is perfect for patients who have started to notice thinning hair. It’s a quick and easy procedure that’s quite similar to giving blood, is completely non-surgical, and doesn’t leave scars.

If you opt to have your scalp numbed, the procedure is completely pain-free, and doesn’t involve any downtime following your session.

PRP provides you with natural results, which can easily be maintained with repeat sessions.

Though PRP is a bit more involved than light therapy, it’s an excellent non-surgical option for anyone looking to restore their lost hair without undergoing a more complex and expensive procedure.

Am I an Ideal Candidate for PRP?

If you’re experiencing hair loss, you’re absolutely a good candidate for PRP.

Those of us with recent hair loss tend to respond best to PRP therapy, so acting fast and getting PRP sooner, rather than later, will help you find the best results. Patients on blood thinners or other blood medications might experience less dramatic results.

We’ll work with you during your consultation to assess your personal situation and figure out if PRP is the right fit for you.

What Should I Expect on the Day of my PRP Procedure?

During your PRP procedure, one of our highly experienced staff members will draw blood from your arm, which will then be placed into a centrifuge, to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the blood.

This plasma will be extracted, before it’s injected into your scalp, in any place where hair loss is present. Some patients experience discomfort during this step, so you can choose to have your scalp numbed, if you’d prefer.

Once the procedure is complete, you can return to your normal life!

FAQ

How Long Does a PRP Procedure Take?

The PRP procedures typically take about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.

What Can I Expect After My PRP Procedure?

Following a PRP procedure, your scalp might be a little sensitive and bruised near the injection sites, but ice and Tylenol can help with the pain and swelling. You can get back to your daily life immediately after your procedure. Over the first few weeks, your hair will initially thin and fall out in the first few weeks, before growing back thicker and fuller. You’ll see your full results in two to four months, with repeat sessions. You can maintain your results with additional sessions, as well.

Does a PRP Procedure Leave Scars?

Good news! PRP is non-surgical, and doesn’t leave scarring behind, as the injections are performed with a very fine needle. Even with a close-cut hairstyle, nobody will notice that you’ve had a PRP procedure.

How Long Will the Results of My PRP Procedure Last?

PRP often requires multiple sessions to achieve full results, and you’ll want to set up a series of return visits to maintain your newly-thick and gorgeous hair. During your consultation, we’ll walk you through every step of the procedure, and talk you through everything that goes into maintaining the results of PRP.

How Much Does PRP Cost in Richmond?

The cost of PRP varies based on how many sessions you’ll need, which we’ll discuss thoroughly with you during your consultation.
