We all long for a toned set of legs, but the reality is they can be tough to achieve. We don’t always have control over things like genetics, age, weight loss, and other factors, which can get in the way of our ability to shape those legs with diet and exercise alone. A thigh lift can give you those amazing, confidence-boosting legs you’ve always dreamed of. Richmond Plastic Surgeons offers thigh lifts for men and women in Richmond, Midlothian and surrounding areas of Virginia.

What is a Thigh Lift?

Sometimes, diet and exercise can only take us so far in our journey towards shapely legs. Even with all that improved strength and muscular contouring, it’s possible to still deal with pesky little bulges of fat or loose, sagging skin.

You’re not alone — these common issues among men and women in the Richmond area can’t always be remedied simply by eating right and working out.

Some fat has a tendency to stick around no matter how dedicated we are, and some skin simply doesn’t have enough elasticity. But you’re in luck — both of these problems can be nipped in the bud, with a thigh lift at Richmond Plastic Surgeons.

What Are the Benefits of a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift can help boost your confidence and self-esteem by:

  • Reducing the amount of sagging skin on your thighs
  • Generally smoothing your skin
  • Removing stubborn pockets of fat
  • Improving the proportions of your thighs with the rest of your body
  • Giving you that sought-after thigh gap

How Can I Get Myself a Thigh Gap?

Ah, the ever-popular “thigh gap.” This term commonly refers to the small space between the thighs, seen when standing straight up, with the legs together. While body types prevent the thigh gap from being easily attained, thigh lift surgery can grant you one by reducing the fat on the inside of your thighs.

In other words, thigh lift surgery eliminates extra fat on the inner and outer thighs, including the “saddle bag” area, making it possible to enjoy that coveted thigh gap, no matter what.

Am I the Ideal Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

If you’re close to your ideal weight and aren’t looking for a weight loss solution, you might very well be the perfect candidate for Richmond thigh lift surgery. More often than not, thigh lift candidates will have recently lost a significant amount of weight.

One of our highly experienced, board-certified surgeons will talk you through the procedure, and work closely with you to develop a surgical plan that balances your personal goals with the realistic outcomes of the procedure.

What Should I Do Before My Thigh Lift?

First, we recommend that you do everything you can to tone your thighs through proper diet and exercise. This helps to make sure that any remaining fat is the stubborn kind that just won’t go away. However, if you’ve recently lost a lot of weight, this might not be as effective.

Once you’ve maintained your ideal weight for a year, we’ll set up a personal consultation at Richmond Plastic Surgeons to talk you through our thigh lift procedure and the benefits it can offer you.

What Should I Expect on The Day of My Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift removes the excess skin and fat from the inner or outer areas of your thighs. Liposuction might be used to refine the results.

Incision placement varies, according to to which area the procedure is designed to address:

  • Inside the thigh, from the groin area down to the upper knee
  • From the groin to the outside of the hip

Once the incisions are made, your surgeon will remove extra skin and fat, while tightening the underlying muscles and tissues. Then your skin will be pulled tight over the incision, and any excess will be trimmed before the incision is closed.

How Long Does It Take to Perform a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift usually takes about two to three hours.

What Can I Expect After a Thigh Lift?

We’ll place comfy compression bandages over your thighs, to minimize swelling and help them heal properly, and you’ll need someone to drive you home after the procedure.

You’ll be very tired for the first one to three days, and you’ll need to stay home to rest for seven to 10 days. You’ll be required to avoid laying down, so you’ll need to relax in bed with your upper body elevated. (You can also stand during this time.)

Swelling and bruising is normal, and can last for up to a month, with full recovery taking place over the course of four to six months.
