Few things inspire confidence like toned, sexy midsection...but sometimes our bodies can make this a difficult dream to realize. We’ve developed our tummy tuck surgery — also known as “abdominoplasty” — to help you achieve the body you’ve always dreamed of! Richmond Plastic Surgeons offers tummy tucks for men and women in Richmond, Midlothian and surrounding areas of Virginia.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
Our Richmond tummy tuck procedure is designed to eliminate unsightly imperfections in the abdominal area, removing bulges and leaving you with a natural and impressively toned look by tightening areas above and below the belly button.
Things like childbirth, significant weight loss, or plain old gravity can often leave one feeling dissatisfied with the way their midsection looks and feels. Our surgeons specialize in advanced tummy tuck procedures that will allow you to look and feel exactly the way you want, no matter what you are — or aren’t — wearing.

Introducing the Mini Tummy Tuck
A full tummy tuck procedure isn’t always necessary to achieve the look you want.
The “mini” tummy tuck limits your procedure to only what’s needed for your personal goals, and is perfect for men and women who:
Have isolated fat below the belly button
Have strong underlying abdominal muscles
Don’t have sagging skin above the belly button
What are the Benefits of Abdominoplasty?
Our tummy tuck procedure will leave your abdominal area looking naturally contoured and beautifully toned. We can also tailor the procedure to eliminate those pesky “love handles” on the sides of the waist, by adding liposuction to the procedure.
You’ll feel much more confident about your appearance, and your clothing will fit better than ever before. Be bold — try on an exciting new fit, and take your newly-toned self out for a spin!
Am I the Ideal Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty is a fairly extensive surgical procedure, requiring general anesthesia. The best candidates are in good health, and will need to be near their ideal weight, while remaining committed to proper nutrition and exercise.
Women considering children in the future, may want to postpone their tummy tuck, or perhaps combine it with our Mommy Makeover procedure.
While abdominoplasty is a relatively straightforward surgery, it does require a skilled plastic surgeon. You’ll begin your tummy tuck process with a consultation at Richmond Plastic Surgeons, so our expert staff can set your mind at ease, and answer any questions you might have.
On the day of your abdominoplasty, our surgical team will guide you to a comfortable preparation area before your procedure begins.
During the procedure, your surgeon will make an incision just above your pubic area, extending from one hip bone to the other, following along the pubic bone, allowing you to easily conceal your scar with undergarments.
For a full tummy tuck, the surgeon will tighten the underlying muscles with sutures. For both full and mini tummy tucks, the surgeon will remove excess fat, before pulling the remaining skin and tissue over the area, and closing the incision. At this point, excess skin and fat are removed, and your procedure is complete.
In some cases, liposuction may also be utilized, to fully refine the results of the procedure prior to closing the incision.
How Long Does an Abdominoplasty Procedure Take?
Our expert surgeons are able to perform tummy tuck surgeries in a brisk two hours time frame.
Please note that this does not include the time we’ll take to prepare you for your surgery, or the time you’ll spend in recovery.
What Can I Expect After My Tummy Tuck?
After your procedure, we’ll wrap your abdominal area with comfortable compression bandages, to manage swelling during the healing process. Your surgeon might also prescribe a pain medication, to help make sure you heal free of any serious discomfort.
Bruising, tenderness, stiffness and swelling are normal parts of the healing process, and we’ll be sure to schedule a series of follow-up appointments in the following weeks, so we can monitor your progress and be sure that your body is healing nicely.
It’s recommended that you have someone stay with you for a few days after your abdominoplasty, as you’ll need to rest quite a lot, while significantly limiting your activity levels.
Your compression bandage will need to remain in place for several weeks, with a full recovery from tummy tuck surgery taking up to several months.
