What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?

Richmond Plastic Surgeons uses the most technologically advanced equipment available, for a less invasive procedure, compared to other body sculpting solutions. A device known as a “cannula” will remove fat from the specified areas on your body, reducing your post-procedure healing process, getting you back on your feet and living your best life in no time at all.

Best of all, liposuction can be enjoyed on its own, or alongside other body sculpting procedures to refine your incredible results.

Am I the Ideal Candidate for Liposuction?

Our Richmond liposuction is best suited to those who already enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle. We’ll primarily consider your current weight and lifestyle choices, and your surgeon will guide you through the decision-making process by talking these aspects of your life over with you in detail.

While liposuction is an effective way to achieve a more toned appearance, it’s not a weight-loss solution.

What Happens Before I Have Liposuction?

The surgical staff at Richmond Plastic Surgeons places a priority not only on skill and experience, but on setting your mind at ease by answering any questions you may have. A consultation is key, in terms of knowing that your procedure will not only be safe, but will leave you with the exact results you’re after.

Your surgeon will become acquainted with your personal anatomy and goals, and as such will be able to offer a procedure tailored to your specific desires. Starting the journey towards a brand new you begins with a consultation at Richmond Plastic Surgeons.

What Should I Expect on The Day of My Liposuction Procedure?

Our surgeons utilize a local anesthesia, that may be coupled with a sedative, to ensure your complete safety and ideal comfort levels. In most cases, general anesthesia isn’t necessary, but every individual is different.

Your surgeon will employ what’s known as tumescent liposuction to remove unwanted fat, which involves the injection of a special solution, just under the skin. This solution helps with the removal process, which involves small incisions in the treatment area, where the fat-removing “cannula,” is inserted. The cannula then dislodges and cleanly removes any undesirable fat.

How Long Does Liposuction Typically Take?

Lipo procedures usually take one to three hours. Factors that can impact surgery time are:

  • The size and location of the treatment area
  • The amount of fat to be removed
  • The degree of sculpting required, based on things like gender and anatomy

What Should I Expect After My Liposuction?

In most cases, lipo incisions don’t require sutures. We’ll wrap the area with comfortable compression bandages or garments, to manage swelling and keep the tissues in place, which you’ll need to wear for several weeks.

Most patients experience mild bruising, tenderness, discomfort, or a bit of swelling. Your surgeon will help you with everything you need to know to heal efficiently, including what kinds of activities you need to avoid, and so forth.

Will Liposuction Leave Scarring?

Our advanced liposuction procedures involved very small incisions, but small scars will likely still develop as your body heals. The good news is that nobody will notice them, without a very close inspection!

What You Can Expect

A pink scar typically appears at the beginning of the healing process, before gradually darkening in color. This will continue to fade over the course of six to 12 months.

When Will I Notice the Results?

Immediately! As soon as your surgery is complete, you’ll notice that extra fat has been removed from the area.

As the swelling subsides over the course of about four to six months, you’ll begin to enjoy the attractive and naturally-toned results of your procedure.

FAQ

Are There Any Possible Complications from Liposuction?

While liposuction doesn’t always require general anesthesia, the process does include a few general risks. This is where our board-certified surgeons and their impressive expertise come in. We’ll talk you through everything you need to know, including the risks we mitigate by taking care to employ the most advanced technologies and procedures. These eliminate the risk for things like:

  • Irregularities caused by the removal of too little or too much fat
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Unnatural appearance
  • Significant scarring
  • Moderate to severe post-procedure symptoms, such as discomfort

How Long Will the Results of Liposuction Last?

While lipo removes fat from your body on a permanent basis, it is still possible to gain back the extra weight. We advise that you continue living your healthiest possible life, in order to minimize this possibility.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Richmond?

Most insurance won’t cover the cost of liposuction, as it’s considered an elective procedure. We’ll provide you with an accurate cost after your consultation, and we accept several forms of payment. Financing is available through CareCredit®, and you can even apply before your consultation so that you know if the procedure will fit into your budget.
