Have you noticed unsightly sagging or puffy skin on your forehead, making you look aged, tired, and angry? A brow lift (also known as a “forehead lift”) might be exactly what you need for a younger, more fresh-faced appearance!  Richmond Plastic Surgeons offers brow lifts (forehead lifts) for men and women in Richmond, Midlothian and surrounding areas of Virginia.

What is a Brow Lift?

A forehead or brow lift corrects aging where they most often develop first, just above your eyes. The procedure tightens the skin, softening lines and wrinkles in the process. A brow lift can also allow your eyes to look more open and alert, with the overall effect taking years off your appearance.

What Are the Benefits of a Forehead Lift?

A forehead lift eliminates a lot of the most common signs of aging in the forehead and brow area:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Sagging skin
  • Fat that has shifted out of place
  • A roll of tissue that can develop just above the eyebrows

The results of your Richmond brow lift can be enhanced with Botox® to smooth the skin.

Am I the Ideal Candidate for a Brow Lift?

You might be a great candidate for a brow lift if you’re:

  • Between 40 and 60 years old
  • A younger patient with lines caused by muscle contractions or stress
  • Have a genetic predisposition to developing a furrowed or heavy brow

Forehead lifts can be performed in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery, and you might still be a good candidate for a forehead lift, even if you’re bald or have a receding hairline.

Before & After

What Should I Do Before My Forehead Lift?

To give yourself an idea as to how the surgery might change your appearance, you can stand in front of a mirror and place the palms of your hands at the outer corners of your eyes. Gently move your hands upward to pull the skin over your forehead and brow area.

This might not show you your exact results, but it’ll give you a good general idea. Our plastic surgeons can make use of more advanced techniques to show you how the surgery will make you look younger.

What Can I Expect on The Day of My Brow Lift?

Our board-certified surgeons will perform your brow lift using either the open or endoscopic technique. For the open technique, the incision follows the same line as a set of headphones, but can be modified for patients who are bald or have receding hairlines. Your surgeon will work with the tissue and muscles under the skin, before pulling it over the incision and closing it with sutures. The excess skin will then be trimmed away.

The eyebrows can also be lifted and secured into a higher position by sutures beneath the skin’s surface, or by temporary fixation screws placed behind the hairline.

For an endoscopic brow lift, your hair will be tied back and trimmed behind the hairline, and four to five short incisions will be made in your scalp. The endoscope inserted through each incision, allowing your surgeon to make small changes to the muscles and soft tissues. The scalp incisions will be closed once your surgeon is satisfied with the results.

What Exactly Is an Endoscope?

Endoscopic surgery uses an endoscope, which is a special viewing instrument that lets your surgeon see images of your body’s internal structures through very small incisions. The endoscope helps guide the surgeon as they perform their work.
